Caller ID Scams

Don't Trust Caller ID Alone

Scammers are getting more sophisticated, and caller ID spoofing is one of their favorite tactics. A call that appears to come from Solutions Bank may not actually be from us. Fraudsters can make phone numbers look legitimate and may try to convince you to share sensitive information such as debit card details, PINs, or online banking credentials.

Remember, if something feels suspicious, hang up and contact us directly using a trusted phone number.

Read our latest blog post here to learn how to spot caller ID scams and protect yourself.

Fraud Alert – Amazon Locked Account Scam

Getting an unexpected message saying: “Your account has been locked due to suspicious activity, and your saved debit and credit cards may be at risk” and telling you to call “Customer Care” at a number they provide? That’s a scam.

Scammers use fear tactics to pressure you into acting quickly, sometimes even asking for access to Venmo or other money-transfer accounts. Don’t fall for it.

Don’t call the number they provide.

Look up Amazon’s official customer service number and verify your account directly.
If they call repeatedly, block the number and report it to Amazon.

Stay alert, stay safe, and don’t let fear trick you into giving away your money or personal info. Visit our Security Center to learn more about common scams and how to protect yourself. Knowledge is power.

Keys to Small Business Success

Growing Your Community, One Business at a Time

Small businesses are the backbone of our community. They create jobs, fuel innovation, and add a unique character to our town.

But starting and running a successful small business isn't easy. It requires dedication, hard work, and a good dose of know-how. Steering a small business towards success amidst fierce competition and constantly shifting market demands is no small feat.

Whether you're gearing up to launch your dream venture or seeking ways to pivot and propel your current business, understanding the essentials of small business success is vital.

Building a Strong Foundation

Even before you start looking at storefront properties or opening a business banking account, invest time in building a solid foundation for your business. Do the research you need to gain insight into your market and how your small business might fit into it.

Understanding the Market

Success starts with understanding your customers and the competitive landscape. Before you even think about opening your doors (virtual or otherwise), take a deep dive into your local market.

What do the demographics look like? What does your community need, and what are they tired of? Analyze your target audience's needs and preferences, and study how your competitors are meeting those needs.

Look into free resources to help you conduct market research. Tools and resources available through your local library or the Small Business Administration (SBA) are a treasure trove of information, ready to guide you.

Developing a Winning Product/Service

The heart of your business lies in what you're offering. Don't blend in. Offer unique, high-quality products or services that solve a specific problem for your target market.

Whether it's a product or service, it needs to fill a gap, solve a problem, or offer something so unique that it can't be found anywhere else in your market.

The lowest price doesn't always win and competing on price alone is a race to the bottom. Focus on providing exceptional value that sets you apart.

Creating a Business Plan

Think of your business plan as a roadmap to success. It shows you where you want to go and how you plan to get there. It should detail your mission, your market, your financial projections, and your strategies for overcoming potential challenges.

Your business plan should be a fully referenceable document that can help you stay focused, secure funding, and make informed decisions. A plan usually includes the following information, tailored to your specific business:
  • Executive Summary: A brief overview of your business, its goals, and key financial projections.
  • Products/Services: Description of what you offer, including benefits, features, and pricing.
  • Market Analysis: Research on your target market, competitors, and their strengths/weaknesses.
  • Marketing & Sales Strategy: How you'll reach your target market and generate sales (marketing channels, branding, pricing).
  • Operations Plan: Details of your day-to-day business operations (production, supply chain, inventory, legal requirements).
  • Financial Plan: Projected financial statements, funding needs, and financial ratios.
Numerous free resources and templates are available online and through the SBA, which can provide a solid starting point for drafting your plan.

Effective Management Strategies

Once you’ve laid a solid foundation, you can start thinking about the day-to-day details. How will you operate your business effectively and efficiently? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Organization is Key

Running a small business means wearing many hats. Stay organized by implementing systems for managing finances, inventory, and safely maintaining customer and supplier information.

Utilize bookkeeping tools designed for small businesses to keep your records in order and your operations running smoothly. Look into the options and familiarize yourself with one or two that both suit your business needs and are intuitive to how you and your staff most smoothly get things done from day to day. Even the best software is only useful if it’s convenient and easy to make part of your team’s routine.

Marketing on a Budget

Effective marketing doesn't have to break the bank. Get creative with social media marketing, local networking events, and strategic partnerships with other businesses.

Social media platforms offer powerful, low-cost ways to reach your audience. Community engagement, word-of-mouth, and creative online content can also drive interest and build your customer base without a hefty price tag.

Building the Right Team

The people you choose to bring into your business can be your greatest asset. Hire for culture fit as much as for skill—look for individuals who share your vision, work ethic, and passion for the business. And don't forget the importance of building a network of professional advisors, such as attorneys and tax consultants, to guide you through the complexities of business ownership.

The regulations governing small business formation and taxation can be complicated, so it’s highly recommended that you add a tax professional or similar advisor to your team to help you navigate the process. A skilled professional can provide a powerful return on investment by helping you maximize tax write-offs and making sure you’re compliant with other business paperwork, thus saving you costly penalties and fees.

Embracing Technology

Technology can be a game-changer for small businesses. Utilize online tools to manage operations, connect with customers, and gain valuable insights. Automate the parts of your business that make jobs easier for yourself and your employees without sacrificing customer service.

Adaptability and Perseverance

The business world is dynamic. Perhaps the most important aspect of running a successful small business is the ability to adapt. Be prepared to rethink your strategies as circumstances change.

The key is to stay agile and responsive to market trends and customer needs. Markets shift, new competitors emerge, and unforeseen challenges arise. Staying flexible, being willing to pivot when necessary, and maintaining a resilient, perseverant attitude will help your business thrive when things get tough.

Exceptional Customer Service

Customer service should be your number one priority. You can turn a first-time buyer into a lifelong customer by going above and beyond to meet your customers' needs, addressing concerns promptly and effectively, and building genuine relationships. Never underestimate the power of exceptional customer service. Building strong relationships and fostering customer loyalty is crucial for sustainable growth.

Grow Your Business Success

Making your mark as a small business in today's world is both an exciting opportunity and a considerable challenge. By focusing on thorough market research, delivering a high-quality product/service, drafting a solid business plan, maintaining organization, building the right team, and embracing adaptability, your small business can not only survive but thrive.

Building a successful business takes time and dedication. It's the result of consistent effort, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment to your vision.  There will be challenges along the way, but with perseverance and a commitment to these key strategies, you can turn your entrepreneurial dream into a reality.

Turn Your Plan into Progress

A strong business plan doesn’t just guide your decisions—it also opens the door to the resources you need to grow. Whether you’re launching something new or ready to take the next step, having access to the right funding can make all the difference in bringing your vision to life.
