Don't Trust Caller ID: How Fraudsters Can Fake a Call from Your Bank
Your phone rings, and the caller ID says Solutions Bank. It looks legitimate, so you answer.
The person on the other end claims to be from our fraud department and says there's a problem with your account that needs immediate attention. They may sound professional, know basic information about you, and create a sense of urgency. Then they ask for your debit card number, PIN, online banking password, or other sensitive information.
Stop right there. This is likely a scam.⚠️
Unfortunately, fraudsters are increasingly using a tactic called caller ID spoofing to make it appear as though they're calling from a trusted organization, including financial institutions like Solutions Bank.
What Is Caller ID Spoofing?
Caller ID spoofing occurs when a scammer uses technology to disguise the phone number they're calling from. The number displayed on your phone may look like it's coming from your bank, a government agency, or even a local number you recognize.
In reality, the call is coming from someone entirely different.
That's why it's important to remember: caller ID alone is not proof that a call is legitimate.
What Scammers Want
Fraudsters often try to trick people into revealing personal and financial information they can use to access accounts, steal money, or commit identity theft.
They may ask for:
- Your full debit card number
- Your debit card PIN
- Online banking usernames or passwords
- Security codes sent by text message
- Social Security numbers
Some scammers may even threaten account closures, claim suspicious transactions have occurred, or pressure you to act immediately.
What Solutions Bank Will Never Ask For
For your protection, Solutions Bank will never call and ask for your full debit card number, PIN, or online banking password.
If someone claiming to be from Solutions Bank requests this information over the phone, treat it as a major red flag.🚩
Even if the caller ID says "Solutions Bank," do not provide the information.
What to Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call
If a caller claims to be from Solutions Bank and asks for sensitive information:
- Hang up immediately.
- Do not provide any account information, card numbers, PINs, passwords, or verification codes.
- Call Solutions Bank directly using a trusted phone number—such as the number on the back of your debit card or the phone number listed on our official website.
- Ask a bank representative whether there is actually an issue with your account.
Taking a few extra minutes to verify the call can help protect your finances and personal information.
Remember: It's Not Just Phone Calls
Spoofing and impersonation scams can also happen through:
- Text messages
- Emails
- Social media messages
If a message claiming to be from your bank asks you to click a link, call a number provided in the message, or provide sensitive information, proceed with caution.
Instead, contact your bank directly using a trusted source.
Stay Alert, Stay Protected
Scammers rely on trust, fear, and urgency to get victims to act before they have time to think. The more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to recognize and avoid fraud attempts.
Key reminders:
✅ Never share your full debit card number, PIN, password, or security codes over the phone.
✅ Don't trust caller ID alone—phone numbers can be spoofed.
✅ Be cautious of callers creating urgency or fear.
✅ If you're unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and call Solutions Bank directly.
By staying alert and verifying suspicious communications, you can help keep your accounts and personal information safe.
