Why You Shouldn’t Reply to Unknown Texts—Even with “STOP”
It seems harmless—someone sends a spammy or weird text, and you reply “STOP” to get it to end. But did you know that might actually make things worse?
How It Backfires
When you respond, even with “STOP,” you confirm your number is active. Scammers can then:
- Sell your number to other scammers
- Target you with more sophisticated phishing attempts
Better Moves
- Don’t respond at all.
- Block the number.
- Educate Yourself and Others: Stay informed about common scams and share this knowledge with friends and family to help protect them as well!
